FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACE


A flight control surface is a movable part of an aircraft's wing or tail that is used to control the aircraft's direction and altitude during flight. Examples of flight control surfaces include ailerons, elevators, and rudder. Ailerons are located on the trailing edge of the wings and are used to control roll, or the rotation of the aircraft around its longitudinal axis. Elevators are located on the horizontal stabilizer at the tail of the aircraft and are used to control pitch, or the angle of the aircraft's nose up or down. The rudder, located on the vertical stabilizer at the tail of the aircraft, is used to control yaw, or the rotation of the aircraft around its vertical axis. Together, these flight control surfaces allow the pilot to maneuver the aircraft in the desired direction, altitude, and attitude.
